Wood Using re-purposed wood is more environmentally friendly and typically provides a higher grade of wood. Older wood has very beneficial characteristics including slower growth, higher oil content, and tighter grains. Old growth teak trees have higher oil concentration and tend to be a darker color. With the tighter grain, the wood has less affinity to warp. With such a rarity of old growth teak trees left, it only makes since to try to re-use and up-cycle as much of this rare wood as can be found. River rescued cypress from the St. John river, recovered Almendro from the bottom of a lake Gatun , as well as mahogany and teak salvaged off of sunken boats are also used to build Flatline spearguns. Their amazing beauty, quality, and history help make each custom gun extra special |

Construction
Flatline guns are constructed from 3-5 wood laminates depending on size of gun. The dimensions of each gun vary. No shaping is done until the blank has been completely squared and straightened. Each blank sits for 1-3 months ensure no warping, then squared one final time before any cutting or shaping. Flatline guns are crafted using repurposed wood giving each gun its own unique character. Repurposed wood can be difficult to work with because it can have holes and knots from previous uses, but the aged wood makes each Flatline gun beautiful and unique. Flatline guns are typically oil finished, which brings out the beautiful, natural grain of the wood. This means small scratches only require a little sandpaper and teak oil to repair. Most guns range from 80 cm to 120 cm. Both personal experience and the input from professional free divers is used to craft each gun - light, simple, accurate and beautiful. No two are, or ever will be exactly alike.
Design
These guns are designed with free divers in mind. The triangular shape not only looks cool, it minimizes drag when maneuvering the gun upwards when ending a descent and tracking fish. The design also works just like a ramp, allowing the bands to be as parallel as possible with the shaft when loaded helping to ensure a straight release with little tail whip on the shaft from the bands puling it downward. I also incorporate a deep track to help increase accuracy and hold the shaft in place. Because the guns have a deeper track, there is more wood to help keep the shaft from shifting or warping while shooting and the flight of the shaft is straighter and more accurate similar to an enclosed track. Unlike most mass-produced guns, the spear shaft of Flatline guns lays completely flat in the track, not just simply sitting on the trigger-mechanism and muzzle. The trigger-mechanism is meticulously installed so that when the trigger is released, there is no drop in the shaft. This reduces the notched end of shaft from being pulled upward, and helps direct more force horizontally while increasing accuracy. The less motion in the shaft as it travels then length of the gun insures a straighter shot. To make handling easier and more ergonomic, AR-15 handles and handle frames are used.
Options
Most guns are assembled and completely rigged after being ordered. All guns include an American-made Neptonics reverse trigger mechanism, with line release, line anchor, line pin, bands, AR-15 handle and handle frame, and an optional line bungee. All parts are american made and of the highest quality. I can upgrade the hard plastic AR-15 handle to the Hogue overmolded soft grip handle, available in many different colors, for an additional charge. Most guns come with one or two line wraps, 300 lb black mono shooting line, double sharkfin 9/32 shaft, with flopper and pencil point. I build the gun the way you want it, so if you don't want it rigged, or prefer no bungee, want a longer butt section, or just want the squared blank, just let me know. Even an enclosed track is available for additional charge. Prices range depending on options and sizes of guns. Also available with or without a reel. Reels to hold from 30 meters to 70 meters of line. Guns are available with either Redtide, Spear Master, or Aussie reels. Add-ons such as reels and line are offered at competitive pricing.
